The Royal Lineage
Thirteen generations of hereditary leadership
Understanding "Kamuswaga"
The word Kamuswaga is derived from the Lunyoro word "Kamusaaga" which means "the eleventh son". This title has profound historical significance.
The first prince to receive this title was Edward Kezekia Ndahula II, who was the eleventh son of Prince Isansa Lwampanja. Since then, "Kamuswaga" has become the hereditary designation for the ruler of Kooki, passed down through the royal lineage from generation to generation.
Unlike other chiefdoms within the Buganda Kingdom structure, the Kamuswaga is the only hereditary chief who is not appointed by Mengo (Buganda's administrative center). This unique arrangement was established in the 1896 agreement and preserves Kooki's distinct cultural identity and autonomous leadership tradition.
