About the Kingdom of Kooki

The Kingdom of Kooki, officially known as Obwakamuswaga bwa Kooki, is a traditional cultural institution located in Rakai District, Uganda. Established between 1696 and 1740, the kingdom has a rich history spanning over three centuries, playing a vital role in preserving cultural heritage while promoting modern development.

As one of Uganda's eleven traditional cultural institutions (comprising five chiefdoms and six kingdoms), Kooki represents a unique blend of historical significance and contemporary relevance. The kingdom operates under Ugandan law as a cultural institution, dedicated to the preservation of traditions, promotion of development, and service to the Abakooki (people of Kooki).

Our Vision

Leadership Structure

The kingdom is led by the Kamuswaga, a hereditary chief who serves as the custodian of Kooki's cultural heritage and the spiritual leader of the Abakooki. The current leader is His Highness Kamuswaga Apollo Sansa Kabumbuli II, who has served since his enthronement on May 15, 2004.

The governance structure includes various ministries and departments that oversee different aspects of cultural preservation, development, education, health, and community welfare. This organized approach ensures effective service delivery and sustainable progress.
